Located in northern Tanzania, Lake Manyara National Park is just 126 kilometers west of Arusha Town. The park spans 330 square kilometers (125 square miles), with a significant portion—230 square kilometers (89 square miles)—covered by the lake itself. This diverse landscape, nestled between the Great Rift Valley and the soda lake, offers a unique mix of wildlife and activities.
Lake Manyara Wildlife
Lake Manyara National Park is renowned for its abundant wildlife. Notably, the park boasts a large population of elephants, which are commonly seen throughout the area. Additionally, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, waterbucks, and warthogs roam freely across the plains. For those interested in more elusive species, the shy Kik’s dik dik and the Klipspringer can be found along the rocky escarpments. Moreover, the park’s scattered forests are home to leopards, while the healthy lion population is famous for its unique tree-climbing behavior. In addition to these species, visitors will also encounter large troops of baboons, which can number up to 200 members.
